Singer and musical actress Renée van Wegberg was born and raised in Horst, a village in the south of Holland. Her musical development began when she was very young. At the age of 5 she started taking ballet lessons in the Royal Academy of Dancing program. Renée began gaining recognition for her remarkable voice and from the age of 10 she has performed on many stages. Her vocal resemblance to Celine Dion does not go unnoticed. When she was only 16, she reached the finals of the popular television program ‘Henny Huisman's Soundmixshow,’ with the song "That’s The Way It Is."
In 2002 she began studying at the Music Conservatory of Rotterdam, the Music theatre Academy. She took singing, dancing and acting lessons from distinguished teachers like Alberto ter Doest. During her study Renée also took workshops from guest teachers like Barbara Duijfjes, Vincent van Warmerdam and Frans Ehlhart and singing lessons with Gé Titulaer.
Even before finishing school Renée's career took flight and she was invited for many performances with a.o. pianist Cor Bakker and violin player Guido Dieteren and his orchestra.
In December 2004 Renée beats hundreds of contestants to win the singing and dancing category of the popular television competition "AVRO’s Sterrenjacht" shown live in the Netherlands. Her reward is a leading role in a musical by Joop van den Ende Theatre Productions (Stage Entertainment). She also had the opportunity to travel to New York to study singing and acting, learn the techniques for "Stage Combat” and meet and work with renowned composer, Frank Wildhorn. Eventually in 2009 she will be playing the leading part of the Narrator in “JOSEPH and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat”,with Freek Bartels as Joseph.
In the beginning of 2005 Renée participated in the National Song Contest of The Netherlands, in a duet with Dennis ten Vergert. With the self-written song "One Look" they reached the national finals. On the 30th of April Renée had the privilege of singing for Queen Beatrix, the Royal Family and thousands of guests. Together with Vera Mann and Mariska van Kolck she sang the breathtaking "Memory" from the musical Cats. She also recorded two songs for the album "Superguppie zingt," and the same year she joined the band Rowwen Hèze as a guest artist at the jubilee concerts of 2005. In addition to her conservatory study, Renée also took master classes from Mary Hammond, one of the best singing teachers in Europe, and from musical star Stanley Burleson with whom she performed on stage in “Musicals in Ahoy’ 2006, one of the biggest musical events in the world. Following this came the first starring role in a musical - from November 2006 to March 2007 Renée played the role of Grace Pharrel in the successful musical Annie, with Edwin Rutten as Daddy Warbucks.
Along with her many successes on the musical stage, Renée also honed her skills as a pop singer. Apart from several solo stage performances, Renée spends a lot of time working on her own songs. Together with Egbert Derix and Edwin Schimscheimer she writes her own repertoire with influences from pop, soul and jazz music. In early 2007 Renée presented her own work for the first time on the EP "You'll Find Me".
In June 2007 Renée successfully graduated from her studies at the conservatory in Rotterdam with her own theatre production “Glory and Consequence”. At the end of this year she sings in a concert tour with the Symphonic Impulse Orchestra in Shanghai, China.
In the beginning of 2008 Renée moves to Germany to join the cast of “We Will Rock You” for eight months where she frequently plays the role of Ozzy. Then she moves back to Holland to play the female lead in Joseph. During that time she also performs on several shows, like the “Uitmarkt” in Amsterdam, both in 2008 as in 2009, as well as The Musical Award Gala.
Over the last couple of years, the singer, actress and dancer Renée van Wegberg has developed into well-rounded and complete artist. She is an artist who distinguishes herself on stage through her energetic performance, powerful appearance and interaction with her band or co-players. Above all she is a professional singer with a unique voice with international appeal.
